Mask Mode AI Chat Explanation Announcement
Dear Partizens,
Thank you again to everyone participating in the EKKO Alpha Test. Over the past day we’ve received a lot of feedback about the chat interaction with EKKO Agents—especially that talking to the AI during matches doesn’t seem to directly change its behavior.
We understand this created confusion and didn’t match what many of you expected. So we want to clearly explain what the chat system currently does, what it doesn’t do yet, and why.
What the AI Chat System DOES in Mask Mode
In Mask Mode (pre. called "Commander Mode"), you’re not on the battlefield yourself. The chat system is your main connection to the action.
Live Battlefield Reports
Your EKKO Agent constantly reports what’s happening in the match, including:
• Enemy sightings and combat outcomes
• Loot boxes and collectible discoveries
• Current backpack value, HP, and ammo status
• Extraction portal status
Without these updates, you would essentially be blind to the battlefield.
Intel Delivery
When you purchase Intel, the information is delivered directly through the chat interface.
Examples include:
• T1 Macro Intel: remaining squads, total value of loot still on the map
• T2 Zone Scans: resource density and risk level of specific areas
• T3 Precision Intel: enemy locations and loadout value
This intel helps you determine your next strategic move.
Personality-Driven Interaction
Each EKKO Agent personality communicates differently.
For example:
Enforcer:
“Another one down. This area belongs to me.”
Maverick:
“Hey… that loot over there looks promising. Might be worth the risk.”
Sentinel:
“Boss… this area isn’t safe. I recommend extracting soon.”
Strategist:
“Current backpack value: 1,200 Diamonds. Risk-reward ratio suggests extraction.”
These personalities don’t just add flavor—they also provide strategic hints that help guide your decisions.
Extraction Decision Support
In Mask Mode, the most important decision is when to extract.
Extract too early and you leave value on the table.
Extract too late and you may lose everything.
The battlefield reports and intel provided through chat are meant to help you make that critical call at the right moment.
What the Chat System DOES NOT Do (Yet)
We want to be transparent:
In the current Alpha Test version, sending chat commands such as:
• “Go to Area A”
• “Attack that enemy”
• “Extract now”
does NOT directly change the AI’s behavior.
Right now, your EKKO Agent’s actions are primarily determined by:
AI Personality
Before match
Determines decision style and risk tolerance
Tactical Type
Before match
Determines action priorities
Loadout Configuration
Before match
Determines combat capability
Intel Purchases
During match
Can influence some decisions
Chat Commands
During match
Currently informational only
In other words:
about 80% of the AI’s behavior is determined before the match begins.
Why It Works This Way (For Now)
Mask Mode is a completely new type of gameplay.
Building an AI that can:
• Understand natural language
• Interpret player intent
• React to a chaotic battlefield
• Remain balanced and fair
is significantly more complex than traditional scripted AI.
For example:
If you say “Go to Area A”, the AI cannot blindly run there if a deadly ambush is detected along the path.
We also need to ensure:
• AI reactions remain balanced (not exploitable through scripts)
• AI behavior stays consistent with its personality
• The system gathers enough real match data to train and calibrate decisions
That’s exactly why this Alpha exists.
Every match you play, every command you send, and every decision your AI makes helps us train and refine the EKKO system.
You’re not just players — you’re co-creators of the EKKO AI evolution.
Best Strategy in the Current Version
Until real-time AI responsiveness improves, here’s the most effective way to play:
Before the Match (Most Important)
Choose your personality based on your goal.
• Sentinel / Strategist: safer, profit-focused runs
• Enforcer / Maverick: higher risk, higher reward
Match your tactical type with the personality for best results.
And don’t always run full gear—Survival Sets can outperform heavy builds in high-risk matches.
What We’re Building Next
Our long-term goal is clear:
EKKO should understand you, respond to you, and still retain its own intelligence.
Here are some features already in development:
Intel-Driven Behavior
Intel will evolve from information → action triggers.
For example:
If intel detects an ambush near an extraction point, your AI may respond:
“Intel shows enemies near Alpha extraction. I’m rerouting to Bravo.”
Intent Recognition
Chat messages will influence AI decisions as intent signals.
Example:
• “Play it safe” → Sentinel becomes even more cautious
• “That loot looks worth it” → Maverick raises its priority on that target
Different personalities will react differently to the same message.
AI Response Feedback
If the AI ignores a suggestion, it will explain why.
Example:
“Boss, Area A shows active combat signals. Too risky. I’ll circle through Area C.”
This creates a real conversation loop instead of silence.
Long-Term Memory
Over time, EKKO will learn your playstyle.
If you always extract once your bag reaches 1,000 Diamonds, the AI will start suggesting extraction at similar moments.
Your Agent will gradually become an AI partner that understands you.
Final Words
We know the current experience doesn’t fully match everyone’s expectations yet, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion.
Mask Mode is an entirely new experiment, and we’re working hard to make EKKO smarter with every iteration.
Your feedback during this Alpha is invaluable.
Every match you play is helping us push this new genre forward.
Remember:
On the battlefield, the strongest weapon isn’t a gun — it’s intel.
And the best Mask isn’t a micromanager — it’s a decision-maker.
Thank you for being part of the EKKO Alpha journey.
